This came with some very sharp edges from the casting. I had to shave those off to make it feel right. This is too light for my taste, as I train with it and the o-bokken at the same time.

OK, so its not a real, folded steel samurai sword. Those cost thousands, and you get what you pay for, however, compare the price to an $85 Ka-bar, and you begin to see how reasonably priced this sword is. The quality and craftsmanship of this sword is easily comparable to any mid-range, mass-produced combat knife made by companies like Ka-bar or Ontario. You are paying for a sword that is handmade with modern materials and knifemaking techniques - high carbon steel with a clay-tempered "hamon" edge. No joke, the edge is sharp enough to shave with. This is perfect. Its made with nice strong damascus steel. They didn't over do it on the oil they put on the blade its not to heavy, and its well balanced. Its a high quality sword for an affordable price.

I own and have used several live blades. This one is of better construction than all but one, which cost me $1000. The blade is almost full tang and well secured with two pins. The blade is well designed with a nice long fuller and comes semi-sharp. It took little time, however, to get it sharp enough to cut hairs. I have not done any Tameshigiri with it yet but have full confidence.

Very well balanced. Good weight, good feel to it. It's durability will be tested I assure you but so far it's been a great practice weapon. Came sharp enough out of the box to cut through bamboo as said but definitely could be sharpened to a razor edge if you need it to be.

I received my Samurai Sword on time and in excellent condition . When I opened the box the first thing I noticed was how heavy it was . This is a real sword not just a prop . It is beautifully made and very sharp.( Very sharp ) . I bought it to hang in my new office so I dont plan on using it , but it is nice to know it is there. Who knows maybe there will be a zombie invasion or at least an over zealous salesman , could be fun .

i just got this sword today the shipping was early by a day and the boxing was good and it came with a stand and belt. the craftsmanship of the blade was great and it feels like it could put some real damage out. its worth the money in my opinion. the tsuka was fit for either one or two hand wielding and the blade was almost razor sharp.

It's a sturdy sword. I was planning on buying the nodachi because it's heavier, but this one's weight is enough to swing it with one hand. It came as advertised, and the blade was covered with grease (is this the word?) wich is nice so it won't rust.

Honestly I love it I just got it today, it's a beautiful sword nice and sturdy but there's a few minor problems (which is why I only give 4 stars) 1.) one of the clips for the belt is broken 2.) the blade is slanted to the right a bit. Other than those minor problems i love this sword a lot.

Very nice katana. Especially for the price. For 100 dollars you cannot beat this sword. I'm not a self proclaimed master swordsman like most of the people who write these reviews, and I'm not gonna pretend like I am. That being said I don't know for sure how katanas are graded traditionally so I'm giving this one 5 stars based on how it appeals to me. Aesthetically appealing across the board. Real hamon, everything was just as advertised. It came nice and sharp, although I plan on honing it more. I cut a few tree branches with ease, and some others weren't so easy (which may have been my technique or lack thereof). I don't know if it's razor sharp or not or how to determine that, but it sliced a paper into ribbons a few times. I would buy this sword again, in fact I probably will. No blade wobble. Yes it's made in China, what isn't these days.

Traditional katana collectors may be put off by the lack of a hamon. But don't be fooled. A hamon is not necessary with the purity and heat treatment of the modern steel. It will resist chipping better than a traditional katana as well as take more abuse from flexing pressure. Hamons have disadvantages as well and should not be there if the the reasons for having them are non-existent.

Excellent training value for your $$. I own several of these. They are basically unbreakable, unlike oak or kamagong wood bokken, of which I have broken many. These polypro bokken are not as rigid as wood, so be aware of that. Also you'll want to put tape on the grip area, the polypro gets slippery when you're training and your hands are sweaty.

The blade on this thing is incredibly sharp. The overall quality is very good, although it seems a bit blade heavy and unbalanced. I imagine if I were looking for an authentic (and perfect) samurai sword I would be spending thousands of dollars. Regardless, this is a beautiful and well made katana for the price.

I just wanted the wakizashi for a photography piece I was working on. I didn't know that this came as two swords that fit together. I was pleasantly surprised! The edge was a little sharper than another prop sword I had, so be aware of that if you have kids. I will say it's not as shiny as it looks in the picture, but maybe that's because I didn't polish it or something.

beautiful sword. was NOT customized as per my request(they could have just said no, i still would have bought it), but whatever, i'll just buy more swords(probably not from this seller, tho). it is still a fine addition to my collection. on par with other swords in this price range, but barely. hamon appears to be real, as far as i can tell. beautiful, shiny finish, almost flawless. unique saya and tsuba. i got the sword in the pics and i am happy with it. it makes a LOUD chopping noise, which is very cool, but i think i would have preferred it without bo-hi, as i am more interested in devastating damage than sounding cool. i do not think this one will be getting much use in the bamboo grove.

For the price I don't think you can get a better Samurai sword. Normally I collect fantasy swords or medieval time swords but I do have a few katana's and this one is great. While its not my best one for the price, its of great quality. It is sharp so it should not be played with as someone can get seriously injured but that should be common knowledge when dealing with swords. And this is a real sword.

Given the price, I was a bit skeptical, but was surprised that the quality was awesome. Good weight and balance. Very sharp. Some reviews have complained that it is made in China, but the Chinese have been making swords for over 2000 years. This is a Ten Ryu katana. One of the better low price swords, since a real Japanese katana would cost between $5000 and $50,000. Dual mekugi pegs add strength so there is no looseness between the nakago and ho. The hamon doesn't appear to be etched. I did however replace the saya with a leather wrapped one that I can wear over my shoulder.

Double Sweet!!!!!! Beautiful red and black blade highlights the folding laminations, solid construction. Hay bales yield smoothly. Details nice. I got it for the symbolism of the green and fish, and the red blade details -- Archangel St Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing (Green and fish) and Archangel St Euriel, the Source of Divine Wisdom (Red). Later, I might ask Ryan to have matching Wakizashi and Tanto made for me. I'll bet that the Archangel Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing, uses the sword to metaphorically cut out illness.

wellll, it's not perfect. they never are. i do not expect perfection for 320 bux. the blade has 2 or 3 small blemishes, little scratches or marks. not a big deal. if i use it a few times, i will do worse. for the most part, it looks like it has never been used. quite happy with this purchase.this is the 2nd smallest of the set. the spring sakura is the smallest(and my favorite), the other two are pretty beastly, and unwieldy. i have not bent any of them yet, and they clean up pretty easily (stay off the mirror finish part when rubbing, i accidentally dulled a few inches of mine on one of the other swords). behold, the whole dragon king 4 seasons set...

It may be a replica but it's a nice one and ranks higher than other swords I've bought. Decent edge. The ronin-02 has the best edge of mine for the three but I like my collection to have different looking swords or at least saya/tsukas so this was necessary to add to the collection.

The first thing I did when i got it was a paper test, after i wiped off all the oil/wax it was coated in for storage/shipping. it cut well, then reoiled it. There was a few scuffs on the blade up near the point but they didn't really concern me, I took off the handle to see the full tang, and getting the bamboo pegs out was sort of a difficult task for the first time, they were in there tight, and getting the handle away from the tsuba was very hard because of how tight it is, (same goes for putting it back on). all in all, a very well made sword, beautifully decorated tsuba, i looked at a lot of different functional swords 200 dollars and less before I decided on this one, and I'm happy I did. even with the scuffs, I still look forward to getting a display stand and displaying this thing. There is a tiny dent on the front tsuba guard, (the piece between the tsuba and the blade that can't even be removed (at least I couldn't)) however it's so small it's hardly noticable unless the light hits it just right, so it doesn't bother me.

I own and have used several live blades. This one is of better construction than all but one, which cost me $1000. The blade is almost full tang and well secured with two pins. The blade is well designed with a nice long fuller and comes semi-sharp. It took little time, however, to get it sharp enough to cut hairs. I have not done any Tameshigiri with it yet but have full confidence.

The only drawback to the sword is it's not very sharp.I did buy a knife sharpener and used it for this blade and when done I wiped the blade down cut through the rag with scary ease.So sharpening the blade is the only thing I recommend.

I bought one of these to give as a gift, and then bought another to keep for myself. I ended up keeping both to use for playful sparring with former girlfriend. I have no martial arts or swordfighting training, so I am not qualified to offer an opinion on their effectiveness as authentic training items, but I enjoy them quite a bit. Be careful with use, as I imagine a strike to an unprotected part of the body could really hurt.

This katana was everything I hoped for and more, it arrived on time and in excellent condition. My only complaint is that it says china on the brass plate(I forget the name, the one between the tsuba and the habaki)but that can easily be replaced. I would definitely buy from this seller again. The katana is not as tight in the scabbard(top of the Wakizashi) as the Wakizashi is in the scabbard. This makes it easy to pull out the katana with out revealing the hidden Wakizashi.

Looked at reviews and other swords(like the one that comes with 3 and stand) and decided to get this one. BEST decision!! This sword is beautiful and well made and when you hold it in your hands you know where that extra money went. When I swing it around and pretend to slay zombies or intruders or whatever I know that the sword wont fly out of the handle. I received my Katana about an hour ago. I couldn't be more pleased. It is beautiful! It came well packaged and in perfect condition. It exceeded my every expectation. I have read in reviews of other sword makers how the blade arrived scratched and/or the parts of the Katana were loose. Not with this one! It is a solid weapon. And I do mean weapon. I test the sharpness of my knives by pushing them through thin paper, not slicing, pushing. If they go through the paper without drag, they are sharp. My Katana went through the paper like it wasn't there right out of the box. The fabricators were very confident that I would be happy with their Katana before I received it. Now I know why. I'm not an expert on Katanas, but I have done a lot of reading. I believe the steel was really folded and the Hamon is real. The blade came wrapped coated in oil and wrapped in plastic to protect the Saya from the oil. Even the bag, though not the one pictured, is beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone and I am considering buying another.

Wow, What a Katana. Great Balance and wicked Sharp right out of the box. Have not found a Katana this well made at the price I paid. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quaility Katana at a good price.

Delivered better than expected! This was an anniversary gift for my wife and she loves it! We've been slicing melons and being a real life fruit ninja. Seriously, it's an awesome sword. Now all I need are some zombies....

This Katana is much better than described; balanced, very sharp, handle is well made much more than decoration, the wood scabbard is VERY well finished - same quality as the blade. Glad I purchased.

Double Sweet!!!!!! Beautiful red and black blade highlights the folding laminations, solid construction. Hay bales yield smoothly. Details nice. I got it for the symbolism of the green and fish, and the red blade details -- Archangel St Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing (Green and fish) and Archangel St Euriel, the Source of Divine Wisdom (Red). Later, I might ask Ryan to have matching Wakizashi and Tanto made for me. I'll bet that the Archangel Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing, uses the sword to metaphorically cut out illness.

This sword is absolutely beautiful. Great quality, good weight and balance. My only issue with the sword is the claw and the wrapping that's tied to it. The wrapping is a really cheap looking material that appears worn on the edges. Also unlike most samural swords it's not beautifully tied/wrapped around the sword. Aside from that I really like the sword. Oh and one more thing, the picture used to show the sword is accurate so don't expect it to be white as it is in the movie. However in my opinion, the color of this sword/sheath is better than that of the movie.

Not bad for price. If you want it super sharp you will have to work on it. Heft and balance ok. Scabbard fits well. No rattle so far. I haven't tried cutting with it yet.

Beautiful sword! Overall, I was very happy with it when it came in the mail today. It's sharp, solid, and an overall good quality sword. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the blade doesn't line up with the handle, making for poor cuts. If that were fixed, it would be an awesome battle ready sword.

This is a great blade, and pretty sharp. The blade in the picture is darker than the one you get, and I think that is to show off the hamon. Still, it is very sturdy and well made.

Very impressive right out of the box. Well packaged. I purchased this as a gift for a student. The blade is solid and sharp - the quality it apparent. The blade is tight very tight in the saya (scabbard.) The katana itself is very well balanced.
